On May 3rd, Baku successfully hosted the 8th Meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), with the participation of 10 member states under Azerbaijan's chairmanship and with the organizational support of Baku Holiday Travel. We are proud of our contribution to this significant event.
During the meeting, a welcoming address from OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha was delivered to the participants. Kenan Gasimov, Head of the Apparatus of the State Tourism Agency, who chaired the meeting, specifically acknowledged the OIC's consistent support for Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Gasimov emphasized that the country's tourism potential has been further enriched thanks to its liberated territories, and Karabakh is now being promoted as a new, appealing tourism destination for international travelers.
He noted that this meeting was extremely beneficial for discussing the implementation status and application issues of crucial decisions adopted within the framework of the 11th Conference of OIC Tourism Ministers, which was held under Azerbaijan's chairmanship last year.
Within the discussions, an extensive exchange of views took place regarding the existing evaluation criteria for the OIC's "Tourism City Award." Furthermore, the action plans for Şanlıurfa, Turkey, and Khiva, Uzbekistan, chosen as tourism cities for 2023 and 2024 respectively by the organization, were reviewed and approved.
The meeting acknowledged that Şanlıurfa was among the cities severely affected by the earthquake. Participants called on all relevant OIC institutions to develop effective programs and projects aimed at restoring the city's tourism potential following its reconstruction in the near future.
Attendees of the meeting presented on the effective implementation of the resolution adopted concerning tourism development among member states within the 11th Conference of OIC Tourism Ministers, as well as the "OIC Framework Document for Tourism Development." This meeting served as an important platform for the future of tourism cooperation in the region.
